As Christmas season comes forth and life seems to pick up two paces faster than I last remember, I was reminded tonight of how great God is and how much He is truly in control. While in town this evening after sunset the power went out, all over the place. Walmart lost all power, Superstore lost power, the hospital even lost power and was running on generators. As we drove home I could look out the window and see the stars. Now, normally I can look out the window and see some stars, however with all the power out I could look out see the Milky Way right off the bat without fighting to see the whiteness of it in the sky. Coming back to my house with the power out was disorientating at first as I am not used to it. I am used to the comforts of today. I am used to the novelty of street lights, and being able to turn on a switch for power, to be able to come home and microwave my food for supper.

As fast as a bolt of lightning flashed through the sky, my night changed tonight. My supper that I was planning on heating up stayed in the fridge to keep the door shut to keep it cold. My homework plans that required my computer got postponed. I was reminded by a friend that this was my opportunity to sit down and relax. That I should take the time to put my feet up and reflect, and so I did. And when the power came back on I still did. I sat in the dark with my small sources of light and enjoyed the peace of what I could.

As annoying as these interruptions like power outages are and they seem to come at the most inconvenient of times. Or at least I find they do. I think they come at these inconvenient times for a reason. I am glad I got to take a moment in the busyness of all the surrounds me and the pile of a million things that I have to do. to take that time to breath and to talk with those around me. To recentre on what matters most and share some laughs and to just sit down and literally have nothing to be able to do.

So my encouragement and question for you is: what has struck you this week in a a way to make you sit down and to think, to make you sit down and recentre where you are at and just take a few minutes to breath? To breath without music or other noises or sounds in the background, to think without being able to see from the lack of light.
